SCC Summer 2007 Bulletin


Up-coming Community Events & Activities


July 16Saturday, SCC Inter-Generational Community Picnic, come join us at Ashbridges Bay Park (at the foot of Coxwell & Woodbine, Boardwalk)

July 21 - RUMMAGE SALE! A fundraising event to be held Saturday at St. Simon the Apostle church located at 525 Bloor Street East near Sherbourne subway. Everyone is invited to donate your gently used items or come ine and shop to help SCC fundraise!

July 28 - PICNIC & WORKSHOP A 'comunity picnic and pot luck' will be held Saturday at Ashbrides Bay Park (at Coxwell & Lakeshore East) in a sheltered area. There is a scheduled workshop covering senior's income and benefits, pension and related information (Service Canada). All are welcome.

August 4 - WORKSHOP A Health & Nutrition workshop to be held Saturday at the Wellesley Community Centre (Wellesley & Jarvis). City of Toronto Peer Nutrition Program.

SCC programs and activities

Volunteering - If you have time to spare and have skills and expertise, please help SCC and become a board member or a volunteer!

·
Summer placement student – SCC welcomes Ms. Vida Arinal as she learns about community service agency policies and procedures. She will help SCC with daily administration and intake until August.

·
CJY Summer 2007 StudentsWith assistance from HRSDC's Canada Summer Jobs Youth program, we will be hiring at least 5 students (ages 18-30) to help SCC implement its activities and programs throughout the summer. In turn, the students will develop new skills from the experience.

·
Computer literacy training – in cooperation with International Learning Centre (ILC) and referals from INTERCEDE, SCC is providing training for women and live-in caregivers to help them update their skills (held every 2nd & 4th Sunday of each month, please call for more details)

·
Office expansion – during the summer SCC will be updating the office with much-needed equipment and furniture. Please bear with us during this time and welcome any assistance!

·
Senior’s ‘Reaching Out Moving Forward’ – inter-generational workshops (throughout the year) See separate posting for more information under Senior's programs.

Referral Services

Depending on clients' needs, Silayan offers direct service or referrals for cases involving immigration, settlement/housing, human rights, tenants’ rights, labour laws, job search, family counselling and other related topics. We will find the most suitable service provider for your individual needs.

For more information on these activities and events, please contact our office Monday to Friday and between the hours of 10am to 5pm.
